Universal Electronics Releases Enhancements to UEI QuickSet
Application

UEI QuickSet Makes Setting up a Universal Remote a Nearly Automatic Experience for Consumers

CYPRESS, Calif., Jan 06, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Universal Electronics (UEI) (NASDAQ: UEIC) today announces an upgrade to its UEI QuickSet application, taking the next step toward the ultimate goal of fully automating the setup process for universal remote controls.

UEI QuickSet, first introduced in September 2009, is an embedded application for audio/video and set-top box entertainment devices that simplifies universal remote control set-up and programming through an on-screen wizard and two-way communication link with the remote. UEI QuickSet leads consumers through an onscreen wizard to set up devices and program features and can then automatically load the programming onto compatible remotes.

The latest version of UEI QuickSet, v1.5, utilizes data transmitted over HDMI to automatically detect a connected TV and then determine and download the correct code into the remote control without the need for the user to enter in any additional information. The user confirms, and the remote is programmed. The user doesn't need to know the model number or brand to setup their device in the remote. Any new TV that is connected is recognized, and the consumer can be prompted to point the remote at their TV to complete the setup.

Now, more than ever, consumers can easily and quickly set-up their remotes to control multiple devices from one central remote.

Highlights of UEI QuickSet v1.5

  • Model specific searches with no code entry to the remote required
  • Code database can be continuously updated with connection to the online web services so it always contains the latest devices
  • Supports any platform or OS that will support 'C,' Java and Windows DLL libraries
  • Supports any two-way communication standard to remote

"We are pleased to be able to offer manufacturers and consumers the fastest and most automated universal remote control set up solution on the market," says Paul Arling, Chairman and CEO of Universal Electronics. "Our goal is to simplify the home entertainment environment and with the latest version of UEI QuickSet, we are one step closer to making universal remote control programming automatic."

Manufacturers and system operators interested in learning more about UEI QuickSet and other advanced solutions from Universal Electronics are invited to visit UEI's booth #21243 in South Hall 1 during the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas January 6 through January 9, 2011.
