Jun 21, 2006 |

CYPRESS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2006--Universal Electronics Inc. (UEI) (Nasdaq:UEIC) today announced that it has signed an agreement with the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance Inc. (CCSA), a federally incorporated Canadian company representing broadcasting distributors throughout Canada. The CCSA represents the commercial interests of 94 independent member companies for group purchases of programming, equipment and services.

The Bulk Purchase Master Agreement for UEI's 5-device Atlas DVR/PVR(TM) universal remote allows CCSA members the benefit of purchasing UEI's control solutions at lower volumes to accommodate their smaller individual territories, while still enjoying discounted product pricing. Packed with UEI's industry leading technologies, the Atlas DVR/PVR is designed specifically for use with the advanced digital set-top boxes which support integrated digital video recording (DVR) capabilities. And powered by UEI's world-class database of infrared codes, the Atlas DVR/PVR provides broad compatibility to control virtually all set-top boxes and brands of home entertainment devices throughout Canada and North America.

"Furthering our expansion efforts in Canada, we are pleased to partner with CCSA to supply them with UEI's control technologies for their member companies," says Paul Arling, chairman and chief executive officer for UEI. "Their wide reach in the Canadian market will ensure that our growth targets are met for that region. We look forward to providing their members with flexible, cost-effective devices to manage the growth in the digital television entertainment industry."

"The CCSA has a rigorous vendor selection process led by our purchasing committee which UEI exceeded beyond our expectations. UEI's long history and reputation for providing the highest quality remote controls to the cable and satellite market ensures that our members will have access to the best control products on the market. We're comfortable knowing that we can draw on their wealth of experience," says Sylvia Janssen, director of purchasing for CCSA.
